My warmest greetings to all the participants, stakeholders, and organizers of the 2019 Mabuhay Awards and congratulations to this year's winners!

Tourism is one of the greatest drivers of our economic growth. In fact, its contribution to the Philippine economy was highest in 18 years for 2017 at 12.2 percent, as measured by the tourism direct gross value added. But more than that, the tourism sector also provides jobs for millions of our countrymen.

This is why it brings me so much joy that aside from showcasing the world-renowned Filipino hospitality, this event centers on recognizing excellence in our home-grown managers, supervisors, and staff in the Philippines' hospitality industry. We are glad that the Association of Human Resources Managers in the Hospitality Industry (AHRM) decided to recgnize the efforts of some of our frontliners. This is crucial in our shared goal of professionalizing the industry, as we work together towards sustainable progress.

Indeed, your organization is an inspiration to many, and the values that you espouse nare values that we truly need in our world today. It is my hope that you continue to seek innovative yet sustainable ways of promoting our beloved country, in a manner that uplifts and enriches the lives of our fellow Filipinos. May you continue to showcase and bring out the best of the Filipino to the world.
